The meniscus lens is a concave convex lens with an outward convex surface and an inward concave surface. If the outward curvature is greater than the inward curvature, the lens has a positive focal length and is commonly used as a magnifying glass. If the outward curvature is smaller than the inward curvature, the lens has a negative focal length and is a divergent lens that can be used as a negative lens. The meniscus lens is used to greatly reduce spherical aberration, which can achieve smaller aberrations than the plano convex lens and improve imaging quality.
